Update – Miracle Super Baby Isaiah!

Good morning, prayer warriors! Here’s our prayer for today, sent to me the other day by one of our closest and sweetest friends, Dowd Simpson:

“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

~ Deuteronomy 31:8

What a GREAT bible verse. He will NEVER leave you. Not “He’ll be around a lot.” Or “He’s here only if you ask him to be.” Or “He’s available when He’s done with someone else’s crisis or need or cry for help.”  No. Our Lord will NEVER leave you nor forsake you. There is NO reason to fear!

Our little boy had another HUGE day yesterday. His treating physician at Wolfson’s, Dr. Driscoll, is calling him the Miracle Super Baby. Hard to disagree with that!

First, as you know, he has to eat more! You all have been praying about it, and yesterday he hit his goal in FOUR, count em, FOUR, feedings! That’s HUGE. In each of those four meals he had 50 MLs. Dr. D says that’s the equivalent of asking an adult to drink 3.75 GALLONS. Think about that. God truly is amazing.

He had his first bath. Oh. My. Gosh. Cutest thing ever. I’ve posted photos below. Just darn cute.

Isaiah had his EEG yesterday morning. They seriously could not get our “low tone” baby to sit still. He was trying to roll over, kick his legs, etc., and eventually, after an hour of unsuccessful attempts to get him to just lay still, they swaddled him up and wrapped him in my arms and we were able to get him to rest long enough for the 90 minute procedure. I have the best video of it, but am not smart enough at this moment to figure out why this one won’t load and the others will, so we’ll save that one for a later date.

Jen came to visit us from Physical Therapy to walk us through baby massage. I’m tellin’ you. This kid’s got it made! In case Isaiah was asleep when she came, Jen brought an uncomfortably realistic doll that we could use (didn’t have to use it, Isaiah was all about his massage!), but this is what happens when you leave a man who’s had very little sleep in a week with a slightly creepy looking baby doll:

Never leave this man unattended with children. *wink*

Doctors actually started talking to us about what it will take for him to go home:

  • Isaiah has to go 24 hours straight with the feeding tube entirely removed eating 50 ML for every sitting on his own (either breastfeeding or bottle feeding). PRAYING we’re able to get to that milestone as quickly as God will allow 🙂
  • Then he has to pass a car seat test. not sure the details here, but because of his low tone, there are things he has to be able to do with his head/neck. We will bring car seat in today to start practicing. Makes me weepy.

After that, it’s 24 hours. You heard me. ONE. DAY. Then he comes home!! That’s it. Unless the EEG shows something nuts, which they are not expecting, we would then get to take him home. We should have EEG results today.

How can you pray for us today?

  • Pray that the EEG results are normal
  • Pray that our little angel keeps eating!
  • Pray for the other babies in NICU, incuding sweet JJ and adorable KJ whose parents/grandparents we’ve been praying with. We need some miracles for those sweet babies as well!
  • Pray for our marriage, that through all this we will be strengthened and not lose sight of what we’re called to be as husband and wife to each other.

Have an amazing Friday! We are in constant prayer and hope you feel our love and appreciation. We are so thankful that you take part of your day to share your spirit with us. PLEASE keep the emails coming. We want to hear from you! Just click on the Contact Us page of this website and fire it off. We are reading every single one and while we may not reply today, we WILL get back to you.
