This is Michelle, posting a quick update from what we were witness to today in our incredible baby’s journey.
HUGE VICTORY: Baby Isaiah was upgraded out of the Critical Care side of the NICU today. HOORAY! That was our first major victory.
As if that wasn’t enough, our nurse, Laura, informed us this afternoon that they were taking Isaiah off EVERY SINGLE medicine he was on. That’s right. The 4 antibiotics? Gone. All of his tests (that have come back thus far) have him in the normal range. So no more medicine for our baby to see how he responds on his own. It’s truly a miracle.
Isaiah was able to breastfeed for the first time today, and it was just amazing. He’s a super content baby, nothing bothers him! We hadn’t even heard him cry until today, and when he cried, it really was more of a whimper than a cry. He’s just the happiest baby ever.
At NICU, the only people allowed to visit are parents, blood-relative grandparents and one clergyperson or pastor. Last night, Pastor Jack came to visit our little guy. And today, Paul’s parents (Isaiah’s Mae Mae and Papa) came to see their grandson for the very first time as no one was able to see him after he was born. He was whisked away so quickly to ICU at Baptist South that none of our friends and family, with the exception of our sweet friend Wanda who was there for his birth with us, were able to see him. It was so amazing to see him with his grandparents. I can’t wait for him to meet Gramma Martha and Grandpa Bryan.
We ask for your continued prayers as we KNOW they are working. We have gotten so many messages from friends and strangers – even some who have told us that they’ve never prayed before and praying for our son (OUR SON?!) was the first time they’ve ever prayed in their lives. God is working miracles everywhere. We couldn’t be more thankful.
We are working to get a PO Box by the end of the week for those of you who have so generously asked to send well wishes, etc. for our sweet angel. We’ll get that information to you as soon as we have it!
We love you all, and please love on your loved ones tonight! Sweet dreams!
