What Is “A Mile in My Shoes”?

6166284_origIt’s a way for you to go inside the ropes on TOUR with Paul and help raise money for the special needs community he loves so much. Paul is putting his caddie sneaks back on after a successful 2016-2017 season. He will continue to track every mile he walks in the 2017-2018 PGA TOUR wrap-around season. Each tournament week, Paul will record every mile walked (via Garmin Fenix 5) and report back to our team. At the end of the season, we’ll calculate Paul’s miles and give you the chance to donate. Paul walks. You pledge. Kids win.

A Note From Paul

I’m just like every other Dad with an energetic toddler.  Except my son, Isaiah, just happens to have Down syndrome. I work as a caddie on the PGA TOUR for Webb Simpson and walk golf courses across the world for a living. My family lives in Ponte Vedra, FL (just outside Jacksonville) and loves giving back in a huge way. In 2016, my wife and I came up with a fun, unique campaign called A Mile In My Shoes (AMIMS) to raise awareness and funds for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). You can participate in the campaign by pledging to donate for every mile I’ll walk during the 2017-2018 PGA TOUR season. We kicked off AMIMS this season in Napa at the Safeway Open in October, 2017 and God willing, we’ll conclude the season at the 2018 Ryder Cup in Paris in September. Go Team USA!

Come with me inside the ropes each week on the PGA TOUR and walk a mile in my shoes. Well, maybe not literally. But I’m gearing up to share my experiences on TOUR and give you a taste of just how hard caddies work week in and week out on the road. While my challenges differ from many children and adults with special needs, they are challenges all the same.

PLEDGE TO WIN! Each month, we’ll draw a winner from that month’s pledges… well, Isaiah will! And he loves it! Prizes range from autographed items to electronics, from event tickets to restaurant gift certificates and more! But wait… it gets EVEN BETTER! Pledge your support before the conclusion of the US Open (Father’s Day – June 17th) and by simply guessing how many miles I’ll put on my caddie sneaks this year, you’ll be entered for the chance to win a 2019 TPC Experience Package. The package includes:  round trip airfare for two (2) anywhere JetBlue flies, four (4) weekly passes to The PLAYERS Championship at the famed and recently redesigned TPC Sawgrass, a brand new Garmin Fenix 5 watch just like the one I’m tracking my miles with, a pair of his and hers custom made Phits orthotics from my friends at Phits Jax and many more fantastic prizes valued at over $5,000!  The big winner will be the person who guesses closest to the number of miles I’ll walk on these incredible courses we play this season. Last season, our good friend Dale Wiggins won the grand prize and I know this year the competition will be fierce! We’ll announce the winner the first week in October, 2018.

In the first two seasons of A Mile In My Shoes, nearly 100 people pledged over $20,000 in support of our programs for children with IDD. Michelle and I did some simple math and came up with a new, rather lofty goal this year: to raise $13,321! If we get 321 donors to pledge 5 cents per mile I walk (see what we did there? We’re pretty sneaky with the whole 3-21 thing if you haven’t noticed!) we’ll knock that goal out of the park! To kick off the 2017-2018 year, Michelle and I are personally pledging $1.00 per mile and we challenge you to join us. With 1,235.2 miles on my sneaks last season and 955.5 miles the first season, I need to put 1,091.3 miles on my shoes this year to hit another fun milestone: 3,210 miles in the first 3 seasons! So come join us on the course when we come to your city, turn golf on TV or jump online to follow us and cheer on Team Simpson! I can’t wait to surprise myself with how many miles I walk in the coming months! Hope my sneakers are ready. I know my brand-new Phits orthotics are.

Your support means the absolute world to me and my family. We are forever grateful for your pledge to help us support the special needs community that means so much to us.

Do good by loving others,

Paul Tesori

How it works.

Make your pledge

The first step is simple – just pledge by clicking the button below. Enter the amount ($0.01, $0.05, $0.10, $0.25, $0.50, $1.00) you want to pledge per mile Paul walks this season or chose to make a flat donation. No amount is too small! Answer a few short questions, then it’s time to watch golf.

Paul walks, we send updates

Paul hits the links and records his miles walked each ‘working day.’ Our team sends mileage updates and behind-the-scenes photos from each tournament. You’ll want in on this. Trust us.

What’s our best estimate for total miles walked?
  • 6-8 miles per round on average
  • Average of 2 practice rounds per tournament (typically Tues & Wed)
  • 4 competitive rounds per tournament (Thurs – Sun)
  • Approximately 18-20 cuts made (varies each season)
  • 40+ miles per tournament (if we make the cut!)

Give Back

100% of your pledge will fund our special needs programs. Don’t worry, we’ll do the math for you and send you an invoice in October based on the number of total miles Paul walks this season!

How do we calculate your total donation? Don’t worry, we did the math for you with a sample total mileage (1000 miles).
  • ($0.05 per mile): Paul walks 1000 miles. Total commitment = $50.00 donation
  • ($0.10 per mile): Paul walks 1000 miles. Total commitment = $100.00 donation
  • ($0.25 per mile): Paul walks 1000 miles. Total commitment = $250.00 donation
  • ($0.50 per mile): Paul walks 1000 miles. Total commitment = $375.00 donation
  • ($1.00 per mile): Paul walks 1000 miles. Total commitment = $750.00 donation

Paul walked 1,235.2 miles during the 2016-2017 PGA TOUR Season.
Bring it on, 2017-2018!
